No it hasn't.
Everyone makes mistakes and we have a number of ways to reverse up when they happen. The most important thing is that you read this before proceeding, so you know the options and can decide what's best to do.
If a problem has occurred and you haven't uploaded your site, then your website is ok and working for you on the Planet Domain computers. So there's no possibility of the error affecting your customers. There's also lots of ways to undo errors and restore your site, so there's no need to worry.
Undo
The first option is to reverse up with the Undo button and try again. If that doesn't work, it's best to call us. The problem can usually be fixed over the telephone, and we'll show you how it's done so you can do it yourself next time. The general problem will be elements of code that haven't been deleted that should be deleted, or something that has been deleted that shouldn't. This can usually be easily fixed in Code View, but call us first and we'll guide you through.
Restore
Your site can be restored in many ways. Before we restore, however, we'd like to know what happened so we can avoid it happening again. Maybe there's something that you're missing, or maybe we need to work through it with you with additional assistance on-site.
If you do a backup of your site before making changes, the worst that can happen is that you restore the site from your backup and you're back where you started. When you are new to Dreamweaver we recommend that you backup the entire Dreamweaver folder in Documents onto a flash drive before making changes. After some months, though, this should no longer be necessary. Restore from this backup and call us. Remember, we provide three months of telephone support at no cost when we set you up. Don't hesitate to call us. We want to make sure that you can update your site yourself, confidently, with the results you expect.
There are three other restoration possibilities. We can restore your site to the most recent copy of the following: 1/ We can download your site (partially or entirely) from Planet Domain. This copy of your website will be current to the date you last uploaded. 2/ We can restore you to our most recent copy of your site. If you choose our auto-backup service, we'll have a copy of your site current to the first of the current month. This service costs $15 pm. 3/ We (or you can do it yourself of course) can restore you to your last backup.
So, unless it's literally the end of the world, it's not the end of the world, and we'll have you up and running in no time.
Backups
Quite simply, unless you do regular backups - and do them properly - your business (and a lot of your personal information) is at risk. There are many good options, but we recommend the following, and can help you set it up where needed:
1/ Use a backup software such as Norton Ghost. It's about $99.00 to buy. You can download it from the link to the right. It should be configured to backup your entire drive weekly and your My Documents or entire User Folder daily. The Norton backups should be scheduled to run automatically.
2/ In addition to this, you should backup your files to a number of external hard drives or flash drives on a rotating basis. One way to manage this is to use an Outlook Note to list your backups with 'The date of the backup - the name of the Backup Device - the location of the Backup Device'. You should have about four backup devices on this list, placed in different locations in your office or home. Backup in this manner either daily, every few days, or weekly at the very least. Erase the files on the oldest backup device, copy your current files to this device, and update the Outlook Note. We also recommend that one of your backups be located off-site for added security.
We will familiarise you with any variations of restoring and backing up that are specific to your business in our on-site training.
